Fault Lines Links – PA Officer To Face Homicide Charges In Joe Molinaro Shooting

  • A Pennsylvania judge decided that Officer Michael Schulze will face homicide and assault charges for the fatal shooting of Joseph Molinaro in February. While off-duty, Schulze shot Molinaro after allegedly lunging at him. Witnesses say Schulze fired his weapon at point blank range.
  • Mentally ill Melissa Boarts was shot dead by Alabama officers after her parents had called them to assist in placing her in a mental hospital. The officers claim that they pulled over Boarts and she threatened them with a weapon, leading them to shoot.
  • Dash cam footage of the Minneapolis police shooting of Dawn Pfister and Michael Serbus in 2014 was released. Serbus was shot after a he allegedly held Pfister hostage in his car armed with a knife. Pfister was then fatally shot by Officer Brad Juell she went to pick up the knife. No officers were charged in their deaths. Pfister’s family claim she was no threat and announced their intention to file a civil suit.
  • Lawyers for ex-NYPD Officer Peter Liang filed a motion on Tuesday requesting a new trial alleging juror misconduct. Liang was convicted in February for the killing of Akai Gurley.
  • The sister of Hernan Jaramillo is requesting that a federal court throw out the $450,000 settlement it approved in her brother’s wrongful death suit so she can put the city and officer’s involved on trial. Jaramillo died of asphyxiation while he was being held down by five officers in Oakland in 2013.
  • Indianapolis shot dead an unarmed man following a physical altercation on Tuesday. Officers were responding to a call that a man was hitting his wife in her vehicle when he allegedly became violent with police.
  • Denver approved a $295,000 settlement between the city and the family of Alonzo Ashley. Unarmed Ashley was shot and killed by police at the zoo in July 2011 after he suffered from “Excited Delirium” and appeared to be acting out of the ordinary.
