Fault Lines Links – Manslaughter Trial Of Cop Who Killed Unarmed John Geer To Begin

Apr. 18, 2016 (Mimesis Law) — Hi people, your links today:

  • The manslaughter trial of former Fairfax, Va, Officer Adam Torres for the killing of unarmed John Geer in 2013 will begin on Monday. Torres, responding to a domestic dispute report, shot Geer on his doorstep.
  • Authorities in Chicago released footage of Heriberto Godinez being arrested by police last July. Godinez died after police restrained him and an unidentified officer stepped on his neck.
  • The San Francisco PD identified Sgt. Nate Steger and Officer Michael Mellone as the officers who shot dead Luis Gongora earlier this month. A surveillance video of the shooting shows officers firing beanbag bullets and seven shots within 30 seconds of encountering Gongora with a knife.
  • The NYPD shot and killed George Tilman in Queens on Sunday after he fled when police approached him for having a gun in his waistband. It is unclear if Tilman fired his weapon.

Police have fatally shot at least 20 unarmed civilians this year, and cable news hasn’t covered a single case.” (Nick Wing/Julia Craven)
